How to Have the Most Efficient Big Bear Air Conditioner

Bear Valley Plumbing & Heating

When the summer months start to move in, making sure your air conditioning system is in excellent condition should be a priority. If your Big Bear air conditioner isn’t running efficiently, your cooling costs will be much higher than they need to be.

Cooling your home is a huge percentage of your energy costs during the summer, so saving there can drastically lower the entire bill. There’s a chance you’ll need to have professional Big Bear air conditioner repairs. But aside from that, these are some things you can do to ensure you’re saving as much as possible on your cooling costs:

Yearly Tune-Ups.

Having a tune-up of your air conditioner once a year will help to ensure that you won’t need any surprise or emergency repairs for your cooling system during the summer. Any problems that were looming will be taken care of before they turn into expensive repairs or cause more damage. Though you will need to hire a professional for the job, tune-ups are the best thing you can do to ensure the efficiency and well-being of your Big Bear air conditioner.

Keep it Clean.

Your air conditioner’s ducts and air filters need to be clean in order for the unit to maintain efficiency. Sometimes cleaning the ducts will require professional help, but there are often at least parts of the ducts that you can reach on your own. Changing your air filters once every three months during the cooling season will ensure that your Big Bear air conditioner isn’t having to work too hard to cool your home, so your home will be cooler, and you’ll see savings. Make sure your system is clean, and you’ll see a huge drop in your energy costs.

Get the Flue.

If you have a fireplace in your home, making sure the flue is sealed will save you a ton on cooling costs. Your damper may be at the top or bottom of your flue, but making sure it’s closed will prevent conditioned air from escaping.

Insulation.

You may be losing energy efficiency not from the air conditioner itself but from uninsulated portions of your home. A large portion of your conditioned air can be lost through cracks in doorways, windows, and attics. Making sure that your home is properly sealed can hugely cut down on your bills.

Circulation.

Ceiling fans can take a lot of the work that air conditioning units do away, helping your air circulate throughout your home. Putting booster fans in front of your vents can also help cut down on the energy your unit uses to cool your home.

Ventilation.

In rooms in which heat is produced, like a bathroom or kitchen, placing outward blowing fans in the windows can help out tremendously. They’ll remove the heat from the room so that your Big Bear air conditioner doesn’t need to work as hard to keep your home cool.

Get the Timing Right.

Limiting the time that you use heat-producing appliances like washing machines and dryers, dishwashers, and ovens to the coolest parts of the day will also cut down on the energy you use to cool your home. Cook in the evenings after the outside temperatures have cooled and you’ll see the savings!
